Rohnert Park's beginnings as a community of neighborhoods created a suburban style city, with no specific downtown.  Instead of a city center, each neighborhood in Rohnert Park is defined by a public park and school, offering a family-friendly environment with plenty to do for residents all ages - from tots to seniors.  A system of bike trails links the neighborhoods; and tennis courts, swimming pools, a golf course, and special recreational programs provide year round activity.  Sonoma State University, situated to the east of Rohnert Park, is home to the Green Music Center, a world-class facility that has been named one of the 10 most beautiful music venues in California.

Construction of Rohnert Park began in the late 1950s, resulting in a mid-century sensibility for many of the homes in the area; and detached single-family ranch-style homes are plentiful, although the occasional condominium, multi-family, or manufactured home does come on the real estate market.  Today, development of Rohnert Park continues with Sonoma Mountain Village (SOMO), a 200-acre mixed-use neighborhood that proclaims itself to be "one of the greenest neighborhoods in the world".  Upon completion, this eco-community will feature luxury homes, lofts, and condos that are environmentally friendly.

Rohnert Park Homes for Sale

Nicknamed “The Family-Friendly City,” Rohnert Park is one of the more attractive places to begin a home search in Sonoma County, especially if you’re hoping to avoid some of the more tourist-heavy spots like Napa or Sonoma. With a population of around 41,000 people, Rohnert Park actually started out as one of the first planned communities in the country believe it or not, and today it’s grown into a quiet, safe, and highly-desirable city to plant some roots and enjoy a quintessential suburban lifestyle. Notable attractions in town include the Spreckels Performing Arts Center, the 128-acre Crane Creek Regional Park, and also Sonoma State University, which truly has one of the most picturesque campuses of any college or university in the U.S.

Rohnert Park is one of Sonoma County’s largest cities, and its real estate market certainly reflects that too. Townhouses and condos in Rohnert Park make for a great entry-level option, or perhaps a unique opportunity for anybody in Wine Country looking to downsize.
